Upcycled Fashion Show

June 28th, 2024 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Come to the Summer Reading kick-off Party and sign up to participate in the Upcycled Fashion Show. This year's summer reading theme is Read, Renew, Repeat. WPL is partnering with Harbor House Resale Shop to host an Up-Cycled Fashion show at WPL on June 28 at 3:00PM. The library will have clothing from Harbor House available during the first week of Summer Reading. All styles are available while supplies last at no cost to you. There is a limit of one item per person. You may choose an item to upcycle from those available or you can use an item of your own.  A photograph of the original item is required with your entry form. You will need to have someone willing to model your item in the show on June 28. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. This event is open to all ages! You must be registered for the Summer Reading Program on Beanstack to enter. Summer Reading is open to all ages (even adults!)

12th Annual Lazy Daze Car Show

12th Annual Onarga Lazy Daze Car Show will be on July 6th.  Registration starts at 8a.  Show starts at 1pm.  Pre-registration is $10 / Day of Show is $12.  

Running Over MSA 5K

The 9th annual Dan Cavanagh Memorial - Running Over MSA will be on July 6th starting at 9am at Twin Rocks Farm, three miles south of Chatsworth.  This all day family event will include a 5K, kids 1K, atv/golf cart poker rally and fireworks.  There will also be live music raffle baskets, kids bounce house and games for the entire family.  To date Runing Over MSA has raised and donated over $42,800  for The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition and the Annual Dan Cavanagh Memorial Scholarship.  For more information and/or to register please visit https://dannycavanaghmemorial.myevent.com/

Financial Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults

Disasters and other emergencies can disrupt your finances and your sense of normal. In this session, you will learn ways to organize and manage your finances, develop valuable resource lists, and ways to reduce anxiety and stress. With a focus on implications for older adults, we also will explore processes such as building your contact lists before an emergency and watching out for financial fraud following a disaster. Finally, we will review materials to help you build or rebuild your financial preparedness toolkit.

Story Time at the Newton County Fair - Free at the Domestic Arts Building.  "Let the Games Begin" will be the them of this year's Story Time at the Fair as everyone is preparing for the excitement of the Olympic Games.  Each child will receive a free story book.  Contact the Newton County Extension Office for more information.
